Dt 12.1 – Chapter 12 turns to an expansion on the second commandment, against idolatry. Here they are called to destroy the idols of the Canaanites lest they immitate their practices. Connected with this is the proper usage and slaughter of meat for food. They are to keep their procedures free from any hint of idolatry.
