Mt 1.18 – This message comes largely from an article in Biblical Archaeological Review, Calculating Christmas. We learn from the author’s research that the tradition for December 25 is very old, well back into the early 200s, well before any pagan holiday came to be celebrated on that day. These traditions do not prove when Jesus was born, but they show that Christmas is NOT a substitute for pagan celebrations.
