Numbers 3 – The law of the firstborn takes another turn as we come to Numbers 3. Here, the whole tribe of Levi redeems the then firstborn of the rest of Israel, except for an overage of 273, who are redeemed by paying the price of redemption. This highlights that there is a price for redemption, one that in the end, no one can pay himself – we need a clean substitute who will pay the price.
