Acts 20.28-31
Paul’s last instructions to the elders of Ephesus may surprise when we consider the focus. Paul doesn’t offer “practical theology” such as is found in 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus. Rather, Paul pointedly warns the elders to be on guard and be alert – trouble will come. The trouble will come from outside (savage wolves) or from the inside (perverse teachers). In either case, the flock is in peril, and the elder/overseer/pastor has the job of watching and guarding against these threats.
