Gen 5.1-3 – We open our study of the Firstborn for our Christmas season with a look at the genealogy of the godly line through Seth down to Noah. The significance for our study is Seth. He was not Adam’s firstborn, but his third. Due to Cain’s sin, Seth takes his place at the head of the family. Substitution is already built into the concept of the firstborn right at the beginning of history, a history that culminates in Jesus our substitute, taking the place of Adam as the firstborn of God.
