As Paul rehearses his previous life as a persecutor, one key word shows the futility of those efforts: “tried.” Saul “tried” to get believers to blaspheme, but he could not. As we consider what persecution is, how weak men are, we find that true faith will out, not by human strength, but all in the power of Jesus Christ, who saves us.
