Luke 5.36-39 – The Bible never prohibits fasting, but the parables Jesus tells in company with his teaching about fasting for disciples shows that old forms are passing away. Fasting isn’t a New Testament norm – it isn’t prohibited, but it isn’t commanded either. And fasting, for Christians, is never a matter of mourning over sin – all of that is under the blood. The New Testament norm is the fruit of the Spirit, which is full of joy.
