We continue from the message about longing for the pure milk of the word to gain insight into its emphasis. The command to desire the word is the follow up to an opening conditional statement, one which Peter puts last in the sentence for emphasis. The conditional statement doesn’t deny the Christian experience of the reader, but calls for the Christian response of the reader. The uncertainty lies in the question, “Will you long for the pure milk of the word, or not?” The passage challenges you to make this your commitment every day.
