Our first message is the preached form of our Wed, Jan 20. It is the fruit of our pastors hospital stay last weekend.

We continue with our look at Tyndale’s Prologue to Romans, 5th part, covering mostly his summary of Romans 7.

Our afternoon service was occupied with our annual business meeting. We thank the Lord for a good year past and look forward to a good year coming. The Lord is doing some good things among us.

The keys to understanding this Psalm are the shifts in pronoun usage, from the "I" of the Psalmist to the "you" of the recipient and finally to the divine "I" of God as the Lord affirms the promises the Psalmist has been preaching. For the believer, this psalm is a great comfort as we put our trust completely in the promises of God.

Our pastor was in the hospital this weekend. Three men stepped up and stood in the gap for him.

One of our men, Harry Lloyd, stepped in for our pastor after the pastor went to the hospital unexpectedly this week end. Bro. Lloyd gave a good message encouraging a commitment to calling on the Lord instead of relying on self when we are put to the test.

Psalm 87 is a terse poem packed with meaning. The psalmist exults in God’s declaration to the nations – citizenship for the nations in Zion, the beloved city of God.

This prayer is the result of David’s meditation on Ex 34.6 (see Ps 86.15 and Ps 86.5 for the links). In it, David swells forth with exultant confidence in the grace of the good God, even though his prayer still awaits an answer at the conclusion of the Psalm.

Ps 85
Ps 85.10 encapsulates the theme of the whole psalm. We humans have no right to God’s mercy, if the truth be told. But God in himself has reconciled these truths and has become our God and our Saviour.

Ps 84
This Psalm of the sons of Korah (gatekeepers of the temple, the choir of Heman, and descendants of the rebellious Korah of Num 16) is one that expresses the longing of the psalmist for the blessing of abiding with God always in the temple and even more importantly of knowing the God of the temple. He speaks of ‘the anointed’ who appears to be held far away from this place of delight – possibly the king captive in Babylon – and extols the virtues of knowing God in the heart which overcomes any such captivity.

Ps 83
Psalm 83 is the last of the psalms of Asaph, probably written by members of the Asaph choir. The psalm calls on God to thoroughly rout the enemies surrounding His people. The prayer looks far beyond the original circumstances to the final miraculous victory God will provide for Israel when he overthrows all enemies, ushers in the kingdoms and causes the nations to seek Him.
