Yet I was shown Mercy [1 Timothy]

November 29, 2009

1 Tim 1.12-17

Do you think confronting error in a local church is tough? What do you think it would have been like to confront someone like Saul of Tarsus? The apostle offers up his testimony as an encouragement to pastors and churches to engage in confronting error. He seems to say, ‘If God could change me, he could change anyone.’

Personal Sins (2) [Basic Theology]

November 29, 2009

We conclude our study of this topic, begun last week by one of our men, on the subject of personal sins. These are those overt acts of sin we commit, not  inherited sin (our sin nature) or imputed sin (our condemnation with Adam).

Hope Makes Not Ashamed [Romans]

November 29, 2009

Rm 5.5

As we come to v. 5, we realize that the Christian hope is a major theme of the first five verses. It touches all the new privileges the Christian enjoys as a consequence of justification by faith. Our hope means no condemnation awaits us because we have God’s love lavished upon us by the agency of the Holy Spirit, our Guide, our Comforter, and our Guarantee of eternal salvation.

Mercy and truth are met together [Psalms]

November 25, 2009

Ps 85

Ps 85.10 encapsulates the theme of the whole psalm. We humans have no right to God’s mercy, if the truth be told. But God in himself has reconciled these truths and has become our God and our Saviour.
